<body>

Welcome to the angsting hour. Or depressing hour. Whatever term you think fits all of this SAD times. Damn, this was a good episode. No. This was a great episode. The animation was fabulous, even with the few blips I saw sprinkled here and there, and the plot. The plot. Fuck. Yeah.

I knew they would delve a little into Lunatic’s past, but I hadn’t expected it to be like this! His dad was Legend? His dad lost his powers and ended up turning into a drunk and wife beater? Wow. Just… I would never have guessed any of that. I had always told Nikki that I thought Lunatic looked cool and his vigilante justice was interesting, but I think I’m starting to really like the guy. I can see now how he got to this point. How he feels that those who have done horrible crimes deserve death, not a stint in jail. It makes sense. I can’t say I agree with him, but I get it.

Watching his past was pretty heartbreaking. And the scene with his mother had me feeling for him. How horrible it must be to live with his mother who calls him a demon and blames him for what happened. I know he killed his father, but he had been thinking only of his mother at the time. Who wants to see one of their parents get beaten like that? And didn’t his father always tell him not to turn a blind eye, no matter what? It’s sad.

The episode didn’t only focus on Lunatic, though. It also centered around Kotetsu and his failing powers.

It seems that every time Tiger uses his powers it is shorter than the time before. At the beginning of the episode his normal 5 minute power boost was only lasting 3 minutes and 45 seconds. I’m amazed that no one has caught on yet. Barnaby is still thinking that Kotetsu is just being nice and letting him get all the points. Though I will give Bunny some props for following his partner out onto the balcony during his party. And it was nice to see some of the snark between them back again, though the affection was still present.

The end of the episode, though, was depressing. Seeing Kotetsu lying in the dumpster all battered is so sad. I really hope in next week’s episode he finds the answers he is looking for. I also want to see Barnaby setting off to find Kotetsu, because I think Tiger needs someone to talk to. He needs to trust his partner enough to tell him what’s going on so they can figure out what to do. It’s too early for Kotetsu to be throwing in the towel. Let’s get some tiger spirit and fight on!

Shamefully, I behind in watching all of my shows except for Tiger & Bunny. So I really shouldn’t be talking about a new show until I’ve caught up on the others, but curiosity got the better of me. I only learned about Alphas, a new series on Syfy, a couple of weeks ago. Our cable had been acting up for a good month and because of that I wasn’t watching as much TV on… well, TV. So I didn’t see the promo for this show until it was close to starting. When I finally did see it I was interested. A show about humans with superhuman abilities? Who wouldn’t love that?

I just finished watching the first episode and that interest has grown by leaps and bounds. Like most shows I watch, I found myself instantly drawn to a single character and because of that character I will definitely be giving this show a chance.

This is Gary. He has Asperger Syndrome and has the ability to see all electromagnetic wavelengths. It wasn’t explained, so I am not sure if his ability is what leaves him with a form of autism, or if he was born with both. I really can’t explain why, but I was already liking his character in the very first scene he was in.

He had some pretty amusing scenes later on as well, especially when he and Bill, another member on the team, are together. Though I can’t blame Gary for getting testy, seeing how Bill is the only one on the team that doesn’t always use kid gloves around him, teasing him and whatnot. The rest of the team does their best to be patient with Gary, which is really sweet to watch. I am really looking forward to seeing how they will use Gary in future episodes. In the pilot he was pretty damn useful for the case.

Misleading image above! Even though he really wants to, he is never able to drive in this episode. :(

Okay, I should probably stop talking about Gary and actually focus on the show. Huh? Well, I don’t really know what else to say. The series is about a team of people with superhuman abilities that help solve crimes or catch criminals when needed. In this opener the team consists of five people and by the end they add a sixth to their roster. The abilities are pretty cool, and I can’t help but call Rachel a sentinel in my head. Haha.

So… Yeah. I enjoyed the first episode and I will look forward to next week’s! Sorry for not being more review-y on the plot and premise. I just got distracted by Gary.

By the way, the actor who plays him has a sexy accent. *watched some behind the scenes stuff* <33

This week’s episode focuses mainly on Sky High. He is conflicted, depressed and has an adorably fat dog named John.

To be honest I never really though much of Keith before this episode. I thought he was cute with his enthusiasm, but that was pretty much it. It was nice to see him a little more in his day to day life, even if he was depressed the entire time. xD

Other than that, though, I don’t have much to say for this episode. I read a lot of the comments from other tumblr goers after this episode aired and… I really don’t understand people’s reactions. I mean, I get it. The ending is sad. He’ll be waiting for her and she’ll never show up because he destroyed her. That is tragic, but… there was no connection between them! Keith was infatuated, but why? Just because she was pretty? Did that tiny scene where he opened up really warrant that attraction? She barely said anything! I don’t know. I guess I just don’t see it.

I was actually much more upset with Kotetsu’s turn of events.

It’s sad to think that he might be losing his powers. He loves being a hero and I can see him falling apart if he’s not able to help. I hope he doesn’t lose them completely.

That was my reaction, exactly. Noooooo!

I finally got around to watch this week’s Tiger & Bunny and, for the most part, I enjoyed it. The new opening and closing songs were okay. I wouldn’t say they were good, but they weren’t awful. The animation for them had some nice still drawings, but I wish there was more to them both than that. Seeing how the first opening/closing were like that, wouldn’t it have been a nice change of pace to have something different for the second half? Maybe that just comes back to the budget for the show.

That, by the way, was something that was VERY apparent in this episode. I thought last week’s had some bad animation in it… This was worse. x.x Too many scenes where the characters looked half done and blob-y. I hope we there is some AWESOME animation to come in the series, otherwise I will cry. Such a great show deserves perfection. ;3;!

Anyway, onto the episode itself. There was a lot of… WTF moments.

Okay, I won’t deny that all three of them look hot there. But, seriously? xD What is going on? And a ten month time skip? Really? I won’t lie, I was disappointed with this. As much as I LOVE the fact that Kotetsu and Barnaby are getting along (acting like an old married couple, by the way), I wanted to see the transition. While they had a great start in episode 13, we missed a lot of good bonding moments. Now instead of having the two at each others’ throats they are… in sync. I love it, but I love growth a Hell of a lot more.

Also, what is up with Karina? I know she had been aware of Kotetsu before this episode, but I want to know what happened in the last ten months that turned lead her to this crush. Do not want. And that’s not coming from a slasher’s stand point. I just don’t like Karina. I don’t like any of the female characters in this show. I hate the producer (hate is a word I don’t use lightly, ick), and then two female heroes kind of bore me. Maybe Karina will grow on me, because I can admit that she was better in this episode. I just… Don’t want her after Tiger. :(

My favorite part of this episode was the end chase.

I am quite pleased with Kotetsu’s power evolving. This is something that could lead to really awesome things in the future. And I hope it does. I like the little rumor circulating that he might end up turning evil. Something about the change in his NEXT color. He’s normally blue (or is it a greenish color? *drawing a blank), but here he is clearly glowing a reddish color. I don’t know if he IS going to turn evil, but that would be totally awesome. DO want. >:3

Last comment of this post…

What was up with all the bananas? xD

I just started this tumblr and I am already behind schedule. xD Not surprising, though, I tend to get overwhelmed when I have more than three shows to talk about a week. Hopefully I’ll be able to catch up on this week’s shows before tomorrow, when my new week starts.

Anyway, Hulu has the next episode of Tiger & Bunny up for viewing, but there is one problem. It lacks subs. :| So, instead of watching the episode raw I decided to just wait for one of the subbers to put up a copy with subs. Or wait for Hulu to fix the mistake.

I did, however, fast forward and peek at the preview for next week. I… Can’t wait for next week. Simply for this:

Lol. I love it.

It’s good to have everyone back. I have always been a fan of series that don’t have huge cliffhangers at the end of their season’s run. Now, I know that Leverage had a couple of ‘OMG’ moments at the end of season 3, but nothing dramatic or nail biting. In fact, everything that happened at the end was pretty predictable. Not in a bad way, though.

The season opened in a pretty standard way, the team had a new client and a new job to handle. Having them all up in the mountains was pretty cool. Nate’s condition from the altitude was a little surprising, but probably shouldn’t have been. Being that he’s an alcoholic and all. I loved how sick he looked. (Weird thing to love, but there you go. xD)

I will admit that I love Elliot and Parker teaming up together. I think it should happen more often. But I think Parker in general had my attention throughout the entire episode. I especially loved her outburst when her and Elliot had fallen into the cavern. Seeing Parker cry was pretty damn emotional and I love that she is starting to want to do the right thing. Not that she’d done the wrong thing up until this point, but you can see her morals are beginning to change. She wants to do what some of the other team members would do. She wants to help.

And, not surprisingly, the best part of the episode was a Parker and Hardison scene.

I love the relationship that has been forming between these two. The sexual attraction has been there for awhile, but you can see that it’s more than that now. Hardison cares about Parker. He was worrying about her going up the mountain, almost crying in relief when he hears from her after they’d thought her and Elliot had disappeared. I think they are good for each other and I hope this hug, Parker needing comfort from Hardison, is the start of something real for them.

Filler. :|

I have never been a huge fan of filler episodes. If the anime is based on a manga series and I’ve read it, I hate filler. Even if it’s a good episodes, I tend to dislike it. Sometimes filler episodes can be fun, but, for me, that’s a very rare occassion.

I didn’t like this one. In fact, it was like pulling teeth getting through the whole thing. x.x The little boy was kind of annoying. Too pushy and loud for me to like him much. Even Rin was kind of boring in this episode. I don’t know. I am trying hard to think of one thing I liked and… I just can’t. Anyone else wonder what they were thinking when they gave the squid that high pitched squeak for its roar/call? D: I thought it was Kuro at first. Weirdness.

I loved this episode. While there are two negative things I want to discuss, I’ll start with the positive. First, and foremost, Kotetsu didn’t die. Everyone rejoice! \o/ I really was worried there, thinking they’d actually go through with killing off one of the main characters. I can’t deny that it would have been a gripping storyline, but I’m SO happy they didn’t do it. I wasn’t lying when I told Nikki that I would stop watching this show if Tiger died. ;3;

Another thing that I was happy about was the fact they killed off Jake. Well, I am pretty sure he’s dead. I hope he’s dead. While his powers make him a pretty cool baddie, his demeanor and way of talking is ANNOYING. I’m sorry Jake, but you are not hot shit. Kriem has horrible taste for liking you. Seriously. Ew. I won’t deny, though, that I was a little disappointed with HOW he died. I think Barnaby should have been able to get his revenge. While it’s sweet that he backed off, because of what Kotetsu has been preaching throughout the series, I wanted him to find closure. Even if that meant murdering. Call me crazy. xD Hopefully, though, Barnaby does find some peace after all of this.

And yes… I have forgiven Bunny for being an asshole last episode. I said that I was going to wait and see if he could redeem himself and he did.

The fact that he actually listened to Kotetsu, trusted his partner, was magnificent. I couldn’t have asked for more. Then, of course, the show gave me more! Throughout the series he’s been referring to Tiger as ‘Old Man,’ but in this episode, at the very end, he called him Kotetsu-san. I melted. I won’t lie. Fuck… I was hating on you last week and now you have me melting. You son of a bitch. x3

Okay, enough of the gushing. Time to talk about the two things I disliked in this episode. The animation wasn’t… all that great. It wasn’t necessarily awful or so bad I felt my eyes bleed, but it was noticeable. With all that went on in this episode, the animation should have been stellar. I know it’s been said that the production doesn’t have the best budget around, but they really should have saved the green for this episode.

The second thing that bugged me isn’t necessarily an episode 13 problem. It’s a series problem. STOP ACTING LIKE KOTETSU IS A MORON. Ugh. Who was it that figured out Jake’s second power? Kotetsu. Who was it that risked making his injuries worse by going to Bunny and helping him defeat Jake? Kotetsu. So why is it Barnaby that is getting all of the praise? I just don’t get it. Everyone calls him old. Everyone treats him like he’s an idiot. It really needs to stop. I know he’s made mistakes, but he’s not incompetent. Give him some respect, will you? :|

That’s right, Kotetsu. You pout. Pout and huff and throw a tantrum. You’ve earned it! *huffs*

This was… interesting.

That was my face throughout the whole thing. When I wasn’t laughing, that is. I think this story would have been better if it was allowed to go in depth. Shoving all of that information into three twenty minute OVAs was not the right choice.

You didn’t really have the chance to grow close to any of the characters. I mean, it’s pretty sad when your only reaction to a character’s death is to snort and a mutter of “saw that coming.” You don’t even feel anything for the protagonist. And the twins? I’m not sure. Were they supposed to be major characters or just fodder for the death count?

Who knows? There is only one thing I can say for certain about this OVA…

PICK A HAIR STYLE LADY!! Jeezus. You either go with straight hair or you go with curls. Stop trying to do both, it looks stupid. :| *rages*

2 notes - Monday, June 27, 2011 @ 6:22 pm

I’ve got a couple of hours until I can watch Tiger & Bunny on Hulu and I am dying to know what is going to happen.

There are so many theories and guesses being thrown around and, to be honest, I don’t really want to believe that any of them are true. Obviously I don’t like the idea of Kotetsu dying, but I don’t like the idea of him retiring either. I’m not sure how that rumor got started, but I just can’t see him throwing in the towel. Unless his injuries leave him disabled. Which, I suppose, is a possiblity. There is another guess going around that he might pull the ‘I was dying, but I held on and pushed through just to save you!’ theory. That would actually make me laugh if it happened. Wouldn’t it be like Tiger to show up in a cast and think he could help? xD These are all theories based on Kotetsu, because, well I don’t really care if Barnaby gets his revenge or not. I am mad at him. :|

I am going to wait and see if Barnaby can redeem himself. I know a lot of people are like ‘Lay off of Bunny,’ but how can anyone deny that he was being an asshole in the last episode. I do get it. I can see where he is coming from and I would have been pissed off with Tiger for not trusting me too. But he admitted he was wrong AND apologized. But did Bunny care? NO. Which is what pissed me of in episode 12. So I better see him showing some remorse now that Tiger is in the hospital. :|

Okay, I babbled enough. Now to just sit here and wait for the episode to air. *crosses fingers* Don’t let Kotetsu die. ;;
